Asian Cuisine - Paradise Dynasty

Ever tried a xiao long bao(Shanghai Soup Dumplings)? If you haven't, you really got to as they are amazing. And here's a place that's perfect for having these xiao long baos with the perfect dishes to compliment along with it. (Perfect for dimsum lovers)

Starting off, Drunken Chicken. That's literal translation from the name of the dish in the menu, it's just chicken drenched with chinese liquor. Sounds weird but tastes refreshing with the hint of liquor, unlike many other restaurants that only put a little liquor that you can't even taste it at all

Next up, La mian with sliced pork in signature pork bone soup. The ramen is freshly handmade infront of all the diners in the restaurant, and its texture is very silky just like how perfect ramen should be like. Not to forget that it comes with a hardboiled egg with a runny yolk

This is one of my favourite things that I look forward to everytime I come to this place, Braised Pork Belly. Don't let its fat deter you away from its deliciousness, there's many places that can have braised pork belly, there's only so few places that offer the best braised pork belly. The first bite will always be the best, the tenderness of the pork belly and how it just melts in your mouth. It's definitely a dish that will leave you wanting for more.

Finally, the main reason why you should check this place out is its XIAO LONG BAOS. Offering its assortment of xiao long baos (Original, Ginseng,  Foie Gras, Black Truffle, Cheesy, Crab Roe, Garlic and Szechuan flavours) Definitely go and try out all the flavours, this is their signature dish after all.

Weekend Brunch - Seasons Bistro

Seasons Bistro

Its not easy to find good eatery in Orchard Road. It is easy to find food yes, but good and affordable food? That might just be cutting it close. Taking over the former space of Applebee's at Triple One Somerset, Seasons Bistro- as its name suggest, is all about eating with the season. The menu changes seasonally because Thomas the owner believes that the produce is at its freshest during its own season and therefore highly accessible. Also because the ingredients are widely available during this period, costs are lowered and savings are passsed on to the customers by keeping the prices low and affordable. Brunch item from $10-$18 and $8-$12 for desserts.

The food served here is more of a reflection on how diverse the American culture has grown with touches of Mexican, Canadian, New England and New York City and not the usual burgers and fries that we always eat.

blogDSC_0046

The Lumberjack $18 with its alluring fried sunny side up and addictive fries was loved by many. Stacked with a round slight doughy pancake that was good to eat even on it's own, smoked bacon and a chunky sausage bursting out of its skin. Bon Appétit!

blogDSC_0034

From the Weekend Brunch menu list, do try out the Montreal & Lox $15. Featuring a winning combination of smoked salmon and capers served with toasted bagel and cream cheese. Appetising presentation with the vibrant colours of this dish ticked all the boxes for most people.

blogDSC_0026

For something a littlle creative and different, order their Freedom Toast $15 with bread soaked in beaten eggs and herbs for added flavour, smoked bacon, creamy brie and doused freely in maple syrup. An interesting savoury variation to your regular cloyingly sweet French Toast. Giving you all the freedom you need. Do add a dessert if you still have some more space. Our suggestion would be their must try Season's Carrot Cake $12 which is hardly pedestrian evidently from the first bite that is packed ful with chopped walnuts while the cake itself is moist and not too dense, with just the right amount of cream cheese.

Asian Cuisine - Shinzo Japanese Cuisine

Shinzo Japanese Cuisine

If you are looking for good Japanese food in Singapore? Then do head down to Shinzo Japanese Cuisine. Formerly the co-owner of Hinoki Japanese Dining, Chef Lawrence Chia has gone solo with this newest venture. With service that will not disappoint you and the surroundings so intimate and cosy, we are sure that you will enjoy your dining experience there.

blogIMG_7852

Shinzo offers lunch sets from $38++ onwards, while those who have a bit more time to spare during dinner, you can choose from his omakase courses which starts at $138++.

blogIMG_7927

The omakase dinner was made up of 8 courses- appetizer, starter, sashimi, seasonal item, steamed, sushi, soup and dessert. The idea is to let Chef Lawrence know your budget and taste preferences so that he can tailor a menu just for you.

blogIMG_7858

First, lets start of with a Tomato from the Ehime region of Japan, reputed for its freshness and sweetness.

blogIMG_7873

Followed by the appetizers- Deep-fried Ebi with wasabi mayo and Uni Yofu, daintily presented in a birdcage-liked holder.

blogIMG_7889

Toro Tataki for starter, lightly seared for a hint of smokiness. The rich tuna belly with a hint of sirlon feling while the topping of miso accentuated the sweetness of the meat

blogIMG_7909

Chef's Seasonal Selection followed after with some Herring Fish Roe, Hamachi and Baby Abalone.

blogIMG_7918

Follow by Squid with Roe as main course. Its tender but firm flesh and soft creamy thick roe. Stewed in homemade sauce, the richness was intensified and overall, very enjoyable.

blogIMG_7931

As for sushi, an Assorted Platter of Nigiri Sushi is served. Made up of Hamachi, Sea Eel, Flounder Fin, Scallop and Uni, with the latter won the most praises as it was directly imported from hokkaido- a specific class that is recognized as a delicacy and luxury ingredient.

blogIMG_7940

No, this is not Whisky, its Tuna consommé even though served in a shot glass. The broth is in fact a brew of tuna stock, leek, carrots and seasonal vegetables that has been simmering for 4 hours. Bottoms up!

blogIMG_7954

And lastly, ice-cream trio of classically Japanese flavours- Matcha, Yuzu and Kurogoma as dessert!
